Water Pumping
Water Pumping With Renewable Energy

Windmills are the most recognized icons of the renewable energy movement. They have been used all over the world for centuries to pump water. This is a simple device that converts available wind power into mechanical energy. The energy is used to draw water up from a well to irrigate crops and to provide water to live-stock and people. A variation of this technology is the electric water pump. Electric water pumps are capable of pumping considerable more water per hour than their mechanical counter parts but the drawback is you need electricity to power the motor. This is a real headache for homesteaders, farmers, and for vacation homes in remote locations where grid-provided electrical power is not available. One solution is to truck water to these locations, fill a reservoir, and repeat the process as demand warrants. Another option is to use a gas/diesel generator to power the pump, fairly expensive to operate but a better choice than trucking. A third option is to use one of the Grundfos SQFlex-line of electric well pumps.

SQFlex water pumps are configured to use renewable energy sources including the Whisper 200 wind turbine and/or a solar array to provide electrical power to the pump. Unlike their predecessors, is not necessary for the wind turbines to be located directly over the well, a significant advantage in hilly locations where wells are drilled in the lowest terrain location. Since the pump is driven by electrical power, the wind turbine can be located in a place where wind energy is at a maximum such as a hill top. Using renewable energy to power you water pump ensures you will always have a source of clean, quiet, and dependable power
